The Deer: Our other residents

I forgot to add the "other" story from this weekend. So, here's an addendum to this past weekend. I'll start off by saying we have a love hate relationship with the white tailed deer that occupy the land behind our house. Our neighbor puts out cracked corn every day for them, so they are daily (or moreso evening) visitors around our property. As we were heading home yesterday, David made mention it's been a while since we've placed the "Deer Off" on the plants (we're fairly avid gardeners). When we got home we checked out all the plants in our backyard, and realized they had come to pay a visit while we were out of town (as they do frequently when we're gone). Half of David's bean plants had been mowed down, as well as the pink roses and part of the rose bush (that are in the picture with the deer on the bottom of our blog page), my strawberry plants, some of my lillies, my carnations, and various other plants. These animals are not stupid. They know when we're here, when we're not here, and how long it's been since we've used the "Deer Off". I promptly got out the bottle and sprayed everything down, so we should be good to go for the next few weeks. Anyway, I was out there this evening having a "come to Jesus" talk with them (as I do frequently after their feasts in our yard), and noticed we're going to have 1-2 at least 6, if not 8 pointers this year. They are beautiful animals, even though they wreak havoc on most of our plants a few times a year. Their antlers are just now starting to grow, but we will post a few pictures when they're fully grown later this summer. We also have a nice herd of does. We're still waiting on the fawns to debut, as we usually get about 2 a year. We also have a racoon that comes out in the late evening and head's over to the neighbor's yard for his dinner. I'm hoping to get a picture of him sometime soon to post as well. Lastly we are blessed with many bird species that visit our pond and area. We will post more on them later.
